Ortoreksiya Nervoza (Sağlıklı Yeme Takıntısı) Nedir?
Yeme bozuklukları, genellikle kilo alma korkusu ve kilo verme takıntısının merkezinde bozukluklar olarak bilinmektedir.
Ancak bu yazımızda bahsedeceğimiz yeme bozukluğu, bu takıntılardan genel olarak bağımsızdır.
Ortoreksiya nervoza, doğru ve sağlıklı beslenmeye yönelik aşırı saplantı içeren bir yeme bozukluğudur.
Bu bozukluğa sahip kişiler, sağlıksız olduklarını düşündükleri yiyeceklerden kaçınırlar. Tüketecekleri besinlerin içeriklerini takıntılı bir şekilde araştırıp üzerine kafa yorarlar. Kendilerine uygun gördükleri diyet listeleri hazırlayabilirler. Yiyeceklerin sağlıklarını bozacaklarına yönelik yoğun endişe duyarlar. Sağlıklı beslenmediklerini düşünürlerse yoğun suçluluk, utanç ve kaygı duyguları yaşayabilirler. Dışarıda yemek yemekten kaygılanabilirler, çünkü ne yiyecekleri hakkında sürekli bilgi ve kontrol sahibi olmak isterler.
Sağlıklı beslenme elbette insan sağlığı için oldukça olumlu ve önemli bir eylem, hatta gerekliliktir. Ancak ortoreksiya nervozalı kişilerde bu durum böyle değildir. Ortoreksiya tanılı kişiler, belli yiyeceklerin (örneğin sütün zararlarından dolayı süt ürünü tüketmemek) zararlı olduklarını düşündükleri için onlardan uzak durarak aldıkları besini kısıtlayabilirler. Hatta büyük besin gruplarını diyetlerinden çıkarabilirler. Bu da zamanla yetersiz beslenmeye ve kaçınılmaz olarak çeşitli hastalıklara yol açabilmektedir.
Ortoreksiya nervoza, 1997 yılında Dr. Steve Bratman tarafından ortaya koyuldu. Bu rahatsızlığın bu kadar yeni tanınması aslında bir tesadüf sayılmaz. Son 10 ila 20 yıla baktığımızda sağlıklı beslenmenin aslında bir çeşit “modaya” dönüştüğünü söyleyebiliriz. Ülkelerin gittikçe gelişmesi yiyecek sektörünü de etkilemiş ve insanlara fast-food veya paketli işlenmiş ürünler gibi hızlı ve bol kalorili besinler daha cazip gelmeye başlamıştır. Ancak bu besinlerin sık tüketilmesinin zararlarının bir süre sonra fark edilmesi, buna karşıt olarak sağlıklı beslenmenin gerekliliğini vurgulayan insanları beraberinde getirmiştir. “Organik” hayvan ürünleri, glutensiz, yağsız, tuzsuz besinlere yönelik adeta bir hayranlık oluşmuştur denilebilir. Bu şekilde sağlıklı beslenmeye yönelik adanmışlık atmosferinin bazı insanlarda takıntı yaratması ise beklenebilecek bir sonuçtur. Günümüzde de genel olarak sağlıklı ve organik besinlerin toplumda önemli ve takdir toplayan bir yere sahip olduğu görülmektedir. Belki de bu yüzdendir ki ortoreksiyası olan insanlar, sağlıksız olduklarını düşündükleri yiyecekleri tükettiklerinde derin bir utanç ve suçluluk duygusu yaşarlar. Ortoreksiyanın tedavisinde EMDR, TMS gibi tekniklerin de aralarında bulunduğu bütüncül teknikler kullanılabilmektedir. Yol açabileceği çeşitli hastalıkların risklerinden kaçınmak için bu rahatsızlığa sahip bireylerin bir ruh sağlığı uzmanına danışması gerekmektedir.
